IZZY FOREAL
Izzy Foreal performs his semi-acoustic ‘21st-Century Skiffle’ music at various
venues around the Tweed & Northern Rivers area, ably assisted by assorted guest
musicians & cohorts. His latest venture is Friday nights at Luffley Café in
Murwillumbah with Pete ‘Scrubby’ Hurcombe (guitar) & Kel Macintosh (sax),
performing as The Jazz Canaries. Izzy has an impressive musical pedigree, but is
perhaps most infamous as the bass player & vocalist with Sydney comedy-rock band
The Zarsoff Bros through the 1980s & 90s, and with The 69ERS through the 1970s.
In the Tweed & Northern Rivers area Izzy has performed with local semi-acoustic
band Paspalum (who released an album titled 'Sticky Grass Pudding' in 2008), as
well as The Hillbilly Blues Bandits (winners of the 2008 ‘Dolphin’ songwriting
awards) & The Bob Dylan Song Book Band (with local guitar legend Johnny Carr).
Izzy has also performed at the Bilambil Sports Club with the house band, and
played bass on Dave Cavanagh's 2008 album. His new musical ventures include
playing bass with Gabi Bliss’s backing band and The Yesterbeats, a 1960s tribute
with Johnny Carr & Mike Fisher (drums). Izzy is presently writing songs for two
planned solo albums – one for children, and one for adults. His retrospective CD
‘Selected Songs’ was released at the beginning of 2009, featuring songs he has
recorded with various bands between 1970 and 2008.

man of the Zarsoff Brothers and bassist for the "69'ers and presently performs
with Paspalum and in a variety of duets and other groups in the local area. Izzy
tells us “What we are about,” says Izzy, “is being the catalyst for a good
time, with an irreverent approach to the whole idea of rock & roll as an
industry. To the punters, we are just a bunch of looneys who happen to be able
to play music, and who would be just as comfortable beside them at the bar. We
have no intention of deconstructing that image, not even for [name removed
because of possibility of legal action].”
